Geometric Animal Head

To receive full credit for this Assignment- Geometric Animal, you will need to post the following:

1. An Illustrator or .ai file of your completed Geometric Animal with a background / habitat based on a photo you took of your pet or someone else's SUBMITTED in SCHOOLOGY.

2. A screenshot (command + shift + 4) of the completed Geometric Animal posted and published on your WEEBLY.

3. A screenshot of the Coloring Page. Basically the image with no fill and black stroke. Posted and published on your WEEBLY.

Tips- No floating heads (headshot is the neck up), lots of details as you will only do half of the face, the background/habitat needs to be very detailed and fit the environment.

Geometric Animal Head with Habitat. The image of your pet or someone else's pet will need to be symmetrical and you might have to tilt the picture if you pet did not cooperate. But instead of doing the whole head and neck (no floating heads) you are going to do just half of it.

No black and white images as you will be using the paint bucket and eye dropper method you used for the Avatar.

Resizing and Cropping Image in Preview

Before you place your image in Illustrator you will need to edit the image by opening the image in Preview. To Crop, click and drag the marquee across the image and click command + k. To resize go to  Tools- Adjust Size- and make the width 8 inches and it will set it automatically to what it needs to be. Make sure to save (Mac- command + s)

Steps for Illustrator

I. Open a new file that fits the 8 inch by 10 inch canvas or 10 inch by 8 inch canvas.

2. Next, use Object and Place to place your resized and centered or cropped image in layer 1 and lock it.

3. Create a new layer by going to the layers panel and clicking on the new piece of paper or +. Layer 2 is where you will use the pen tool.

4. Next, you will draw a line down the center of the face with the pen tool and choose which side will look best flipped and start the process.

5. Use the pen tool to create geometric shapes on the second layer with a visible color stroke of 1 or thicker. Make sure each line and point was connected as a closed shape and that the FILL is transparent.

6. Next, create a geometric design or prism design to represent the face of the animal (must include neck unless the whole face takes up the artboard and background as previously noted). You should be able to  group, create paths, and make the geometric design a live paint illustration.

7. One your shapes are complete you will select all (command + shift + a) and make it Live Paint (Object- Live Paint- Make). Use the eyedropper tool (i) on the first layer to get colors (realistic color palette) and you applied those colors via the live paint bucket (k) to your geometric shapes to create a final Geometric Avatar.

8. Once you have the half of the face done, you will select all and copy and paste and flip your image horizontally. To flip your image you can use the selection tool and it will give you place around the image to adjust. You can drag the center bar on the side and drag straight across to flip it. You will need to watch the demo in class if this does not work. You will need to adjust the new copied side to make sure it fits.

9. You will create a habitat illustration in the background on a new layer below your animal layer to finish your piece.
